Baby Andreas!!

My son is going to be ONE years old tomorrow and I can hardly believe it! It seems it was only yesterday that I brought him home from the hospital. Talking about hospitals, my son was born in a Belgian Hospital!! We truly are a Military Family, all of our kids were born in different states, and well a different country! I am so happy to be celebrating my son's birthday and it was so much fun putting together a slide show today because he changed so much over one year! He has learned so much too! He can say "ma-ma" and "da-da" so clearly! I love watching him crawl and not yet ready for him to start walking, because that will mean he will not be a baby anymore!! So, I just want to wish my youngest son a HAPPY 1st Birthday and many more to come!! Oh one fun fact: Andreas was born on March 31st and my husband's favorite Baseball team the SF GIANTS start playing tomorrow, so for all you fans, happy first SF GIANTS Game Day!! I don't think that made any sense but I will leave it there for laughs!!!

Happy Birthday Baby Boy!!
Love Mommy and Daddy!

P!NK!!!

I don't mean the color, I mean the artist! P!NK is such an inspiration as rebellious as she may be. Her style is amazing too. She isn't afraid to show her uniqueness with her very short hairstyle. I have been listening to
P!NK since I was in High School, even wanted to dye my hair pink as well!! Well, I didn't but I did sport my shortest haircut senior year in High School, when I got fed up with curling and straightening my hair. So time has passed and P!NK seems to still have some kind of influence on me. Her style is great and very trendy. Recently, I entered a Celebrity Inspired Contest on Youtube and it was so much FUN!!! I chose P!NK of course...and so it goes a little like this:

My first "MilSpouse Friday Fill-In" (March 4,2011)

"MilSpouse Friday Fill In" was created by WifeofaSailor and she does a question and answer every Thursday so her bloggers can respond with their answers. Well I decided to jump right into it RATHER LATE! In fact these questions I am about to answer are for MARCH 4, 2011. But let me just do a trial run to see if I am doing this correctly!!

ChancesImTaking...please let me know if it is correct as I am new to this blogging stuff! lol! Another great blogger I may add with her (MIL)ing it Over topics every week!

So I am hooked and so here we go!!

1. Do you or your {spouse} ever wish your {spouse} was in a different branch of the military?

Yes. I wish he were in the Airforce..have you seen their lodging!? Just kidding, my husband loves his job in the Army as an MP. Yes a totally different breed!

2. What duty station(s) are on your “No Way, Hell No, Not Going, Have Fun Unaccompanied” list and why?

Ft. Hood is not very appealing to me although I know some people who have said some great things. I've heard Ft Polk is not appealing as well...I just hope to be stationed somewhere with civilization and near a Wal-Mart. LOL! Oh..I don't think I would want to come back here to Belgium..maybe Germany next??

3. If you could be one age forever, what age would you choose and why? submitted by Three Krakens

I would be 25 years old. I think at this age I pretty much knew what I wanted in life and I knew what I needed to do to get it. I also loved that I was at the best shape of my life at this age...hmm if I could just turn back time!!

4. If you were a breakfast cereal, which one would you be? submitted by the C.W.

I would be "Hidden Treasures"..wow that cereal was discontinued after one year..not sure why but I would love to be that cereal..the fact that I never knew what the middle part of the cereal was made of, intrigued me. As a child the words "hidden" and "treasures" just sounds mysterious! I would be happy to be that cereal unless of course it was pulled out of production because the FDA did not approve! lol. My second choice then would have to be Peanut Butter Crunch!! HOOKED on that cereal.

5. What is your morning beverage of choice and why? submitted by NH Girl Displaced

Morning beverage would have to be a cup of folgers coffee (not instant) with milk, hazelnut creamer, lots of sugar, and a shot of Baileys Irish Cream. Ok so the shot is not everyday, but that would be great!! ha ha! Why? Well because it just takes all my worries away and wakes me up for the day.

Please feel free to participate in the "MilSpouse Friday Fill In"

THRIFTING isn't just a hobby...it's MORE than that!!

Asian Room Divider (ebay retails) $775.00-$885.00! (antique)
I bought it for $5.00!!!

The face I usually have when I am ready to go thrifting! In fact I was looking for yard sales on this day!!
I love thrifting, whether it's a garage sale, flea market or even a parking lot sale. Here in Belgium, parking lot sales on SHAPE (military base) are such a great place to sell and buy items you wouldn't normally find in a store off the economy. I can't wait until the season to start! I love thrifting for many reasons, one of which, I can find unique items at very low prices. Parking lot sales on SHAPE include sellers from other countries and that is why I enjoy them. Thrifting in general can be a hobby and for me it is a passion. I know sounds gross...I mean who wants to wear other people's stinky clothes?? Well I do, and with proper wash and care, they become like new. I am not embarrased to say that I love thrifting. I encourage you to do it. It helps out the earth as items are being reused or recycled. How is that bad? I save money by thrifting and the best part about it, I get bargains on items that can be worth 100 times more than I got it for!! For example, I went to one of my favorite thrift stores on base "Grandma's Attic" where I bought a wool sweater, not thinking it was anything special...and I found out after a little bit of research that it was worth $225.00!! I bought it for $2.00!! Yeah bargain!! The original tags were still on it!!
When I go thrifting I mainly shop women's clothing of course!! I also shop children's clothing where I find great deals on name brands for my kids. It does not mean I am cheap, it means I am a smart shopper! Kids grow so fast and what better way to save money. I also go for unique items for my house. At the px you can find all the normal items that everyone else has, same picture frames, wall hangings, and the same style of clothing. When I thrift I feel like I am stepping into a new store all over again! As many families come and go here, they drop or consign their items and that is great for families who want to save money instead of having to buy all over again at a regular dept store. Money can add up especially if you are shopping with Euro.
So if you are interested, check out one of your local thrift stores and see what kind of treasures you will find! Happy Shopping!! I am off to go thrifting!! No lie.. :)

Remember: Most of the time you can talk a price down, just choose your words wisely!! My husband taught me that!

For all you THRIFT-OLOGISTS ( I coined the term, just ask SammyDavisVintage)!! You are officially TAGGED!!

Who taught me how to cook??

My father and I dancing in the kitchen!! Love it!

My mother and father who I will forever look up to!! Cannot forget my baby boy!
Well, when I was young I noticed my father and mother would always either rotate on breakfast, lunch and dinner but I always wondered who was the better cook? The answer: both of them. I asked my mother one day who taught her how to cook and my dad laughed! Turns out my father taught my mother most of what she knows about cooking. Now, I did come from a very traditional Mexican family and most of the women always cooked...but when my father met my mother, my mom did not have that much experience...and then it all changed! My mother is a wonderful cook!! I would watch my mother as a little girl and wonder how she could have the main course, side dishes, and dessert finished all at the same time. She is a great multi tasker when it comes to cooking and hope that one day I will be just as good as my mother. But back to the story...my father taught my mother how to cook..I thought:  NO WAY!!! In fact my father worked as a cook at the tender age of 11 or younger.. I forget. Anyway, my father can cook and grill anything! I still love watching him in the kitchen when I am home visiting because he will turn on his traditional Mexican music and just cook away, and the kitchen would smell awesome!!! We highly believe in spices and marinating whenever possible. I love traditional Mexican dishes but my father is great at anything...he can cook the most yummiest SLOPPY joes ever, Carne Asada (grilled steak), Menudo, Tamales, Tacos, and the list goes on!! Oh and did I mention, they never measure any of their ingredients..yes and now I do that as well! I learned so much from both of my parents and I am still learning from them...my mother sends me recipes through the mail and I just love it! The moral of the whole story: don't be afraid of the KITCHEN, the best MEMORIES come from the kitchen. I also wanted to mention that Jenn from "ChancesImTaking" on youtube and blogspot mentioned some of her favorite cookbooks and I will also be sharing that with you as well really soon! I can't wait to share some of my favorite recipes with you. In the meantime...think of something yummy and post below what your favorite dish is...go on! ! !
